Who We Are

The Conduit is an independent news publication covering Baltimore, Maryland. We focus on the structural forces that shape daily life in the city — housing instability, homelessness, poverty, and the public policies that address or ignore them.

We believe local journalism has a responsibility to follow the story beyond the press release. Our coverage starts with the people living through Baltimore’s most pressing challenges and works outward to the systems, decisions, and decision-makers responsible for those conditions.

What We Cover

Baltimore is a city of extraordinary resilience and profound inequality. The same neighborhoods that have produced world-class artists, athletes, and organizers are also among the most economically distressed in the United States. We cover both of those realities — and the policies that shape which one wins.
